Grand Lake of the Cherokees (created in 1940) is
located near I-44 in North East Oklahoma and is a 60,000 acre water
sports paradise. The massive reservoir stretches 66 miles through a
beautiful area of the Ozark foothills called Oklahoma's "Green
Country". Grand Lake's 1,300 miles of shoreline offers a wide
variety of recreation and is dotted with home sites, resorts and
marinas. Grand lake is so large, it's shoreline is longer than the
California coast!
Many things bring visitors back to Grand Lake; but
fishing, boating, skiing, camping, and just plain "water and bird
watching" are among the most often mentioned. And there are
festivals, fairs, flea markets and rodeos throughout the spring, summer
and autumn months to interest most anyone. Don't miss Grove's annual
Pelican Festival, held each September when great flocks of the American
White Pelican make their annual 6 week stop-over at Grand Lake (on their
way from Canada to South America).
